Working Draft: White Paper
Hybrid work sounds like the best of both worlds, until projects stall because no one’s on the same page. That’s where my white paper comes in: a deep dive into the tools, strategies, and policy shifts that turn hybrid workplaces into truly collaborative ones.
What’s Working Draft?
Working Draft is a student-produced web magazine from RRC Polytech’s Creative Communications program. Working Draft publishes long-form creative nonfiction pieces, feature articles and white papers.
The Challenge
Advertising agencies thrive on collaboration, but how does that work in a hybrid world? Hallway chats turn into unread messages, and brainstorming sessions are spent asking, “Can you guys see my screen?”. With the right tools and strategies, agencies can keep teams connected and ideas flowing no matter where employees work.
The Solution
A published white paper featuring guiding principles to enhance collaboration in hybrid advertising agencies.
The Writing Process
First and foremost, a lot of research.
I started by researching the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on advertising agencies and found that collaboration had significantly suffered since most agencies switched to a hybrid work policy.
Then, I interviewed multiple hybrid agencies across Winnipeg and discussed what it was like to have a hybrid office, what the biggest strengths and weaknesses were, and how they handled ensuring their team could still collaborate when they aren’t always in-person together.
From there, I wrote the first draft of my paper. Then the second draft. Then the third. With the help of my lovely editors, I finalized my piece.
The Design Process
Once my piece was finished, I designed it as a PDF using Canva. My goal with my design was to create something clean, professional and easy to read. I used orange as an action colour to bring attention to important sections and quotes.
I also designed the header image for the article using Canva. I maintained my blue & orange colour scheme, but opted for a more attention-grabbing image featuring the classic corporate art-style with some visual storytelling about my piece.
The Results
This article received over 30 reads in its first month and had one of the highest average engagement times out of the pieces published in Working Draft in 2025.
